Chief Marketing Officer
Ruud Wassen is the Chief Marketing Officer of Cigna International and Cigna Europe. He has held this position since October 2022.
As CMO, Ruud is responsible for marketing strategy and execution for Cigna Healthcare’s various business lines. This spans International Organisations (IGO’s and NGO’s) and governments, European employers and globally mobile individuals.
Ruud is known for driving exceptional results, industry innovations, and for building extraordinary global teams.
Specific responsibilities include marketing strategy and analytics, optimization, B2B, B2C and B2B2C marketing, product management, customer experience, creative services, and public relations. Furthermore Ruud has expertise in successful advocacy, internal- external and crisis communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, brand, and corporate responsibility in the EU and globally. Ruud has specific expertise in executive thought leadership and corporate positioning.
Ruud joined Cigna in 2019 as Head of Public Affairs in Antwerp and held various other positions including Head of Brand for International Health before assuming the CMO position for all of Cigna Healthcare international business.
Prior to joining Cigna, he was employed with Teneo for seven years, most recently as Managing Director in Brussels and has held a variety of public affairs and advocacy roles before his time with Teneo.
Ruud resides in Brussels and he and his wife have two children; he is a keen sportsman and enjoys running, cycling, tennis and squash. He earned a Master’s degree in European Law and another master’s degree in War Studies from Kings College in London.
